A Whiting man is in critical condition after riding his bike on Friday morning and colliding with an oncoming pickup truck along Lacey Road and Manchester Boulevard in the Whiting section of Manchester Township.

Police said that their preliminary investigation led them to learn that 61-year-old Joseph Kubiak of Whiting was riding a low speeds and entered into the lane of travel of a 2003 Blue Dodge Ram who was carrying a utility trailer and crashed into the side of that utility trailer.

Kubiak, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City by a Robert Wood Johnson Life Flight medevac helicopter.

He is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup, 32-year-old Gregory Gianci Jr. of Waretown, was uninjured in the collision.

Police believe it's possible Kubiak suffered a possible medical episode prior to the impact.

The Friday morning crash is under further investigation by Sergeant Ian Bole of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
