Two-Fer: Florida Man Arrested For Fentanyl Trafficking While Being Booked Into Jail

A 35-year-old has been charged with narcotics trafficking after deputies found 38 fentanyl pills in his backpack Thursday while he was being booked into jail on a misdemeanor charge.

“While this might seem like a small amount of pills, the reality is this poison peddler had enough fentanyl to kill 6,500 people,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “Thanks to our deputies, these pills won’t ever make it onto the streets of Collier County.”

Corrections deputies found the pills in a pouch inside James Anthony Jean Gousee’s, 35, backpack. The pills weighed 13 grams, revealing a trafficking amount of fentanyl.

It is commonly mixed with drugs like heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine and made into pills that are made to resemble other prescription opioids, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. Fentanyl-laced drugs are extremely dangerous, and many people may be unaware that their drugs are laced with fentanyl.

Deputies initially arrested Gousee for trespassing after he was found sleeping at a table at an East Naples convenience store where he had been previously “trespassed”.

He was transported to the Naples Jail Center for booking and processing. In addition to the pills, jail deputies found syringes, a scale, and burnt tin foil.

Gousee of 2001 Airport-Pulling Road S. in Naples is charged with fentanyl trafficking, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and trespassing.
