Temperatures are heating up, but prices are coming down at Darby Creek Nursery.
Jeff Turnbull, owner of the nursery, has slashed the prices on most of their inventory. A lot of items are now 50% off, including shade and flowering trees.
He says that you can still plant anything you like, and you would water it the same way as if you planted something this spring.
Shrubs would need a garden hose on them for about 30 to 45 seconds about every five days and trees would need to be watered for a few minutes every four or five days. It is better to do one soaking watering every five days then smaller watering every day. The only exception would be hanging baskets. Those need to be watered daily.
With the current hot and dry trend of our weather pattern, Jeff said it is very important to make sure that your lawnmower blade is very sharp and you're raising the deck of your mower so you are cutting it about 3 1/2 inches tall. This allows for the grass to shade the soil to keep it cooler and keep other weeds from growing.
Turnbull says their selection is huge and that the current sale will go through July 3.
