A fifth inning two-out rally on senior night was enough for the Pella baseball team to earn a doubleheader split with Dallas Center-Grimes Friday night, winning game two 6-3 and falling in the opener 7-4, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Dutch committed three errors in game one and gave up two home runs to allow the Mustangs to start with momentum, and DCG pounced on Nathan Vande Lune with five hits and three runs in the first inning of the nightcap. From there, the freshman making his first ever varsity conference start on the mound was dominating, giving up just two baserunners over the next five innings.

After chipping away for a run in the 3rd, the Dutch offense spurred a two-out rally in the 5th, which included all four seniors getting on base in a row on senior night. Keegan Hansen and Jason Knox both had two-run singles in that frame. Vande Lune earned the win with seven strikeouts in six innings and Tate Weesner earned the save in relief with two strikeouts and no baserunners allowed in the 7th. The win in game two gave the Dutch the season series in the conference over the Mustangs. Caleb Stewart hit a home run in game one as well.

Pella is 16-11 overall and 9-8 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, and heads to #2 Grinnell on Monday.
