6 ways to keep kids entertained in Wilmington this summer

Not sure what to do with kids this summer? Here are six activities guaranteed to be a hit.

Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park 

Featuring a waterpark, mini golf course, arcade, go-karts and more, Jungle Rapids has something for everyone. Perfect for rain or shine, this is one place guaranteed to keep the whole family entertained all day.

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is one of the state's most popular attractions.

Popular with visitors of all ages, the aquarium’s Cape Fear Shoals exhibit boasts a 235,000 gallon, two-story tank housing a replica of an offshore reef. Home to a wide variety of species, from sea turtles and otters, to sharks and sting rays, the aquarium is sure to keep kids busy for hours.

The Cape Fear Museum is home to a wide variety of objects, including this model of a Giant Ground Sloth skeleton.

Cape Fear Museum of History and Science 

With a collection of over 57,000 objects, from dinosaur bones to Michael Jordan memorabilia, the Cape Fear Museum is the perfect place to explore on a rainy day. The museum’s current special exhibition, Fire!, explores the history and science of fire. Fire! runs now through Nov. 26. 

Details: Open daily, Monday through Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Tickets $5 to $10, children 5 and under are free. First Sunday of the month entry is free for New Hanover County residents. 910-798-4370.

Carolina Beach Movies at the Lake 

Looking to relax after a busy weekend at the beach? Grab a blanket and head to Carolina Beach Lake Park for a family-friendly Sunday night movie. Upcoming screenings include “Jungle Cruise,” “Luca” and “American Underdog”. In the event of inclement weather, updates can be found on the Carolina Beach Parks & Recreation Facebook page. 

Details: Sunday nights, now through Sept. 4. Movies start at dusk (8:45 p.m.). Free. 

Visitors attend Touch Tank Tuesday at the Fred and Alice Stanback Coastal Education Center in Wrightsville Beach, N.C.

At this weekly event, visitors of all ages can interact with coastal marine life, while learning about their natural habitat. Crafts, coloring and board games are also part of the program. To increase accessibility, Spanish speaking instructors assist with this event. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Japanese Garden at the New Hanover County Arboretum, is one of the arboretum's 14 specialty gardens.

Home to over seven acres of gardens and plantings, the arboretum features plants both native to Cape Fear and from across the globe. You can explore the arboretum on your own, but free guided tours are available if booked in advance.
