Update: Brush fire burning along Kirker Pass Road near Clayton 100% contained

CLAYTON -- Fire crews in Contra Costa County are getting the upper hand on a two-alarm grass fire burning near Clayton Friday afternoon.

The Contra Costa Fire Twitter account posted about the fire shortly before 1 p.m. The grass fire is burning in the vicinity of Kirker Pass and Hess Roads between Concord and Pittsburg. 

Cal Fire units are reporting it to be approximately 20 acres in size. Kirker Pass Road is closed in both directions.

At around 1:20 p.m., Cal Fire said the incident had grown to 30 acres and updated the location as Kirker Pass Road at Black Diamond Trail about three miles northeast of Clayton. Forward progress of the fire was stopped at around 2 p.m., Cal Fire officials said.

By 2:45 p.m., the fire was 75 acres in size and 50% contained. Fire investigators have determined a malfunctioning vehicle caused fire.

The fire was 100% contained as of 5:35 p.m. fire officials said. Kirker Pass Road has reopened in both directions.
