Muleshoe City Council: Water restrictions not contemplated at this time
Gail M. Williams June 24, 2022 0 COMMENTSThe regular meeting of the Muleshoe City Council was held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 13, at City Hall. Members present were Gary Parker, Lupe Mendoza and Crystal Alercon. Mayor Pro-Tem Earl Behrends presided in the absence of Mayor Colt Ellis.
Others present were Gil Rennels, Channel 6; Public Works Director Juan Flores; Police Chief Benny Parker; City Manager Ramon Sanchez and City Secretary Zanea Carpenter.
Parker moved and Mendoza seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the May 9 council meeting. Motion carried.
Council considered a motion to approve the Revised Drought Contingency Plan. Sanchez said TCQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) requires that the city’s drought contingency plan be reviewed by council annually and that revisions be made every five years. Sanchez and staff reviewed the plan and made minor revisions on April 30. Taking the current drought into consideration, Sanchez and staff looked through the plan and looked ahead to make certain it was in compliance.
“We could possibly be going through some water restrictions, but we’re not there yet,” he said. “Our water system’s doing good, but that could change. If we need to issue those restrictions, along with the mayor, we’ll decide that’s what we need to do.”

Alarcon said the business has received many customers from outside the Muleshoe area, including Austin, Houston, Dallas, Las Vegas and Oklahoma.
