Friday night performance

It was a case of the rough stock having the advantage in the first performance.

It was especially the case in bull riding as 15 riders entered but only two recorded successful rides.

Garrett Norby of Walsenburg had the best score as he accumulated 82 points on True Believer. Holden Moss of Ringgold, Ga., is in second place with a 77-point ride on Lizard Lips.

The saddle bronc riders didn’t fare much better as only two of eight performers were able to score.

Slade Keith of Stanfield, Ariz., had the best score of 76 points on Southern Drawl.

Garrett Uptain at first had a 60 ½-point ride on Late 4 Dinner, but he was given the option of a re-ride. He took advantage of his second ride as he scored 72 points on Underestimated.

It was a different story for the bareback riders as all four were successful in their rides. Shawn Perkins of Roberts, Mont., had the best score of 79 ½ points on Sir Grit. Keenan Hayes of Hayden was second with 79 points on Divine Porcupine, Colton Crawford was third with 78 points on Mexican Hat, and Josh Parker scored 74 points on Colorado Gypsy.

In other men’s events, the bulldoggers also had some bad luck as only two of eight recorded a time. Brock Powell of Aragon, N.M., had a time of 6.5 seconds to go into third place overall, while Sterling Lee of Gotebo, Okla., had a time of 16.9 seconds.

In tie-down roping, six of the 10 competitors recorded times. Charlie Gibson of Midland, Texas, had the best score of the performance in 8.7 seconds and he is in second place overall. Blake Blomberg of Fallbrook, Calif., had a time of an even nine seconds, and Ryan Belwew of La Junta had a 9.7 second run.

In team roping, five of the nine duos had successful runs. The team of Edward Hawley Jr. of Surprise, Ariz., and Clint Harry of Nixon, Nev. moved into the lead with a 5.9-second effort.

In the women’s events, only one of three ropers recorded a time in breakaway roping as Dara Belew had a run of 12.8 seconds.

In the ladies barrel race, Emery Mask of Amarillo, Texas, had the best time of 17.60 seconds. Katie Drosihn of Fort Collins and Natalie Bland of Boyd, Texas, tied for second at 17.78.
