A Champaign-Urbana community group, Party for Socialism and Liberation, was one of many organizations nationwide speaking out against Friday’s Supreme Court ruling to Roe v Wade.
PSL held a protest at the Champaign County House to express their disapproval given that people they know needed to get an abortion in the past.
One Attendee, Karla Sanabria-Vaz, shared her story among dozens of people and said she believes abortion rights being taken away has to do with making money rather protecting life.
Sanabria-Vaz said she had an abortion years ago and believes women shouldn't be stuck with parenthood even having done all that's necessary to prevent it.
Vaz said the reason for Roe v Wade is being overturned goes back to industries profiting off childbirth.
"There is a reason they don't want people to have abortions, because you can't have the reproduction of capitalism if you don't have the reproduction of life itself," Sanabria-Vaz expressed.
Organizer, Hrantz Kebantsi, said the Supreme Court Justices having the ability to overturn the case shows unfairness in the justice system.
"We need to fight against an undemocratic organization like this who has the power to strip millions of people of their rights with the stroke a pen," Kebantsi explained.
Kebantis said people not having to access to abortion will cause preventable situations that the Supreme Court knows could happen.
"People are going to die because they need a life-saving abortion, and couldn't get one," Kebantsi shared. "I guarantee you all of the 6 justices who voted to strike down Roe versus Wade knew that."
PSL also says they will remain vigilant in helping women traveling into Illinois to receive an abortion.
