In the early evening of Tuesday June 21, Ogle County Deputies, Monroe Center, Lynn Scott Rock, Stillman Valley and Kirkland Fire/EMS responded to the intersection of East Illinois Route 72 and North Mulford Road for a two-vehicle accident with injuries.

After investigation, it was determined that a Chevrolet sedan, driven by 61-year-old Mark Dunklau of Paw Paw was traveling southbound on North Mulford Road, just north of East Illinois Route 72. The Chevrolet then continued traveling southbound into the intersection without stopping at the posted stop sign.

The Chevrolet was then struck by a Volvo truck-tractor driven by 27-year-old Alfredo Mantiel of Kirkland who was traveling eastbound on IL Rte. 72 just west of the intersection. Both vehicles came to rest in the southeast ditch.

Dunklau and Mantiel were both transported to OSF Saint Anthony’s Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Dunklau was later issued a citation for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign.
