Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley told KCBS Radio's Jim Taylor on Friday that her staff of about 80 people were told "that they were gonna hang from trees, and that their families should die in drunk-driving accidents" following false claims from Donald Trump Jr., Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert and a number of right-wing figures and news sources following Paul Pelosi's DUI arrest.

"I'll tell you, though, that this misinformation resulted in thousands of phone calls to our office of the most vile and vulgar variety," Haley said on Friday. " ... It was revolting on every level, and we've been inundated with it over the last three weeks."

Napa County prosecutors charged Pelosi, 82, on Thursday with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving with a 0.08% blood alcohol level or higher causing injury. Haley said Pelosi had a blood alcohol level above 0.08% when he was arrested in late May after allegedly hitting another car with his.

Haley said her office charged Pelosi following the completion of an investigation, and the she had never decided to drop charges against him. Trump Jr., Boebert and other said, among other false claims, that prosecutors dropped the charges against Pelosi. The Napa County District Attorney's Office didn't publicly comment on the case after Pelosi's initial arrest until two weeks ago, when Haley forcefully said "any speculation" that her office had made a decision was "incorrect."

"I'm here to tell you that never happened," Haley said on Friday of the false claims. "That is not the way we operate here in Napa County. What did happen was the arrest took place, the case was transferred to the Napa County District Attorney's Office, an investigation was completed where we spoke with the victim in this matter, we got the blood results from the Department of Justice, we received the traffic collision reports, the police reports. And then we made our final filing decision which was filed in Napa Superior Court yesterday."

Pelosi will be arraigned in Napa County on Aug. 3.
