NEW YORK -- Police say a child is critically hurt after being struck by an ice cream truck in Brooklyn.

It happened around 6:45 p.m. Friday on Hendrix Street in East New York.

Police say a 58-year-old man was driving the ice cream truck when he struck an 11-year-old boy riding a bicycle.

The child was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Police said early Saturday that the driver of the ice cream truck was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license.
