Horse Cave KOA finishing up ‘glamping’ Native American inspired teepees

HORSE CAVE, Ky. – The Kampgrounds of America began in 1962 way back when campsites rented $1.75. Now, fastford to 2022, and the one local KOA is celebrating the organization’s 60th birthday by going back to the beginning.
Horse Cave KOA has stepped up their ‘glamping’ game once again… this time with 600 square foot canvas teepees!
When the pandemic hit in 2020, the Gedda family Kampground owners got to work introducing four Conestoga covered wagons in 2020, two treehouses in 2021 and now two Native American culture-inspired canvas teepees.
Owner of Horse Cave KOA Jason Gedda said, “We’re excited to celebrate KOA’s 60th birthday.”
Gedda says their Kampgrounds have already smashed their own record numbers, both last year and this year already.
The Gedda family’s Kampground is just one part of the well-oiled county tourism chain.
“Hart County tourism is really growing,” said Executive Director of Horse Cave/Hart Co. Tourism Sandra Wilson. “Outdoor adventure experiences were really great even during Covid the last couple of years, and RVs and camping experiences have really gone up.”
Why teepees, though?
Gedda says he and his family wanted to pay homage to the KOA’s original roots to celebrate their milestone 60th anniversary.
“We took the symbols from the Native American teepees of past and put them on our teepees as well. We have the Morning Star. We also have the Warrior Spirits, and each color represents a different meaning as well,” he explained.
Wilson says their outdoor adventure capital of Kentucky is carving itself quite a name for tourists.
“We’re expecting another really strong year. People coming down the interstate really love our outdoor experiences here in Hart County,” she said.
The ‘glamping’ teepees, complete with a kitchenette, bathroom, two bedrooms, including an upstairs loft, a sitting area plus air conditioning start renting July 1st.
“It’s great outside. Come and enjoy the outdoors,” Gedda urges.
