ANDERSON, SC (WSPA) – One person was taken to the hospital after a shooting Friday evening in downtown Anderson.
The shooting happened in the parking lot of the Anderson Police Department near the corner of East John Street and South Main Street around 6:45 p.m.
Police said they arrived to find the suspect standing next to a vehicle and the victim lying on the ground.
Investigators said the shooting happened while a couple was exchanging custody of a child.
Anderson Police said the boyfriend of the child’s mother shot the father of the child.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Tariq Omar Thomas, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
The 26-year-old victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries. His condition is not known at this time.
