ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man and two women for allegedly stealing a truck earlier this week.
According to a post on the RCSO Facebook page on Friday, deputies responded to a report of a truck stolen from a residence on Green Lake Road outside of Ellerbe.
Soon after the report was taken, a deputy patrolling in East Rockingham reportedly spotted the truck on Mill Road and followed it until conducting a traffic stop on Church Street.
Inside the truck, according to the RCSO, were three people: 44-year-old Jimmy Dell Ott of Rockingham; 34-year-old Veronica Lynn Bowman of Hamlet; and 25-year-old Tiffany Lee Parker of Rockingham.
All three were arrested and each charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. They were booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
(Note: The post does not list a date but records show Parker was booked on June 21.)
Jail records Friday evening showed that Parker was the only one still being held and that she was given an additional $10,000 secured bond for a probation violation.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Parker was given an 18-month suspended sentence in April when she was convicted on one misdemeanor count each of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempted larceny and driving while impaired.
Online court records show Ott has pending charges in Scotland County of conspiracy to commit felony larceny, larceny from a merchant using the emergency door, and first-degree trespassing. Ott is also facing charges of felony larceny and resisting a public officer in Stanly County.
Records show Bowman has several pending traffic citations in Richmond County, including failure to wear a seat belt as a driver and operating a vehicle with no insurance.
State records show Ott was first convicted in 2002 for driving while impaired.
Five years later, Ott was convicted of felony breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering. He was initially given probation, which was revoked later that year following another larceny conviction, resulting in a 15-month incarceration.
In 2011, Ott was convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon and resisting a public officer.
Ott was given a suspended sentence in 2015 when he was convicted on two counts of felony breaking and entering. However, his probation was revoked in 2016 when he was convicted of fleeing to elude arrest, landing him behind bars for 14 months.
Bowman has no prior convictions in the state.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
