5-month-old girl shot and killed on South Side ID’d

CHICAGO — A baby girl shot in the head Friday evening on the South Side has died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner has identified her as 5-month-old Cecilia Thomas.

At around 6 p.m., police responded to the area of 71st and Luella on the report of a shooting. The shooting happened in the 7700 block of South Shore Avenue. Police said a vehicle approached the vehicle the baby was in and shots were fire.

Police said Cecilia was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A source told WGN News the shooter may have been a passenger in a red Chrysler. It’s believed the shooting happened as a result of people in two other vehicles shooting at each.

A 41-year-old man, in another vehicle, was shot in the eye and self-transported to the University of Chicago.

Activist Ja’Mal Green is offering a $5,000 reward for information following the shooting.
