The Myrtle Beach Police Department released an update after a "disturbance" on 27th Avenue North on Thursday, saying one person has been charged in connection.
According to a release, officers were called to the residence around 11 a.m. to check a home and assist a woman in retrieving belongings after a reported domestic violence incident between herself and an ex-boyfriend.
They said the man, Jeffery Brenneman was not believed to be at the home at the time of the call.
Officers say while checking the house, they came across Brenneman inside the residence.
They said he was armed with several firearms and threatened to harm himself.
This led to a situation that went on for several hours, officers had closed down 27th Avenue North. Officers were talking to Brenneman and while that was happening they were able to safely evacuate the female through the second floor.
Negotiators were able to convince Brenneman to come out the front door.
Officers say he refused to exit the yard completely, so tactical teams deployed CS gas to prevent him from going back into the home.
ABC15 crews that were on the scene Thursday heard multiple popping sounds.
After the CS gas was deployed, officials said Brenneman was taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
Officials said charges will be announced at a later time.
