LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A driver in Lynchburg is facing multiple drug and firearm charges after being pulled over due to improper vehicle tags.

Earlier this week, the Lynchburg Police Department says Officer Skillman and Officer Reed noticed a vehicle with improper tags while on patrol. Skillman initiated a traffic stop, during which time a K9 alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, prompting a vehicle search.

Police searched the vehicle and discovered a loaded gun, a distributable amount of cocaine, and thousands of dollars in cash.

In addition to two summonses for improper display of front tags and illegal tint, police say the driver was charged with the following:

  • Possession of Schedule I/II substance with intent to distribute (second offense)
  • Possession of a firearm while in possession of a Schedule I/II substance with intent to distribute
  • Carrying a concealed weapon as a felon
  • Possession of ammunition as a felon

The name of the driver has not been released.

Officials say Skillman and Reed received assistance from other members of their platoon members, as well as the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
