With home prices rising and fewer houses on the market, those looking to purchase a new home could be facing some difficulties in the next few months.
Since the start of the pandemic things has changed. One of those things is the average price of buying a house.
Last year, around this time, the average price of a house was $258,000. Now, we’re almost at $280,000.
However, some realtors are not surprised. Some even say it could be higher by the end of the year.
”I do not see our prices going down anytime soon," said Sarah Disney with The Real Estate Group. "Same thing as well as with the interest rates. I don't see them dropping anytime soon. Well, really, it's as simple as supply and demand. We don't have as many houses on the market while the interest rate is still continuing to climb."
Although, this is a great time to sell your home, buying one affordably might be a lot of harder than usual.
According to the recent U.S. Census, the median value of a house in Springfield was a little over $131.000.
According to Illinois Realtors, the number of homes sold sitewide went down by 10% from May 2021 to May 2022.
