DECISION. PITTSBURGH'S ACTION NEWS 4 REPORTER KALY GUNNED SOREN WAS GROUND LEVEL AND HEARD WHAT PEOPLE HAD TO SAY. KALEA: FRIDAY PEOPLE MET DOWNTOWN TO SHARE FEAR OF WHAT THEY THINK COULD HAPPEN TO WOMEN'S REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS. OTHERS WERE HOPING TO SEE THE CHANGE HAPPEN. THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO ABORTION OVERTURNED. WITHIN HOURS, PEOPLE PACKING INTO DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH WITH PROTESTS. >> WE'VE HAD 50 YEARS OF WOMEN HAVING ACTUAL FREEDOM TO LIVE THE LIVES THEY WANT TO LIVE. >> IT'S ABOUT CONTROL. IT'S NOT ABOUT PROTECTING HUMAN LIVES. KALEA: MAYOR GAINEY ADDRESSING THE CROWD, FOLLOWING BY DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSIONAL NOMINEE SUMMER LEE AND OTHER STATE AND LOCAL POLITICIANS AND ACTIVISTS. >> I'M A VETERAN OF 11 AND A HALF YEARS. SO I FOUGHT FOR PEOPLES RIGHTS. TO WATCH OTHER PEOPLE SIT THERE AND VOTE TO TAKE THOSE AWAY IS DISGUSTING. KALEA: THE MASSIVE CROWD OF PROTESTERS WAS MET WITH A FEW ANTI-ABORTION COUNTER PROTESTERS. >> I OPPOSE ABORTION FOR THE SAME REASONS THAT I OPPOSE THINGS LIKE WAR AND THE DEATH PENALTY AND POLICE BRUTALITY BECAUSE THEY ARE VIOLENCE AGAINST A HUMAN BEING. THIS IS NOT A RELIGIOUS POSITION. I'M AN ATHEIST. KALEA: AS HERB GARRITY CELEBRATED THE OVERTURNED DECISION, MANY ASKED WHAT RIGHTS WILL BE OVERTURNED NEXT. >> THEY WENT FOR THE THING THAT THEY FELT WAS THE EASIEST. SO NOW IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY GO FOR THE OTHER THINGS. KALEA: ANTI-ABORTION PROTESTER CANE SPITACK SELF-IDENTIFIES. A MEMBER OF THE LGBTQ PLUS COMMUNITY. DOESN'T THINK OTHER RIGHTS WILL BE CHANGED. >> JUSTICE ALITO SAYS IT'S NOT TO BE USED TO INTERFERE OR DISCREDIT OTHER PRIVACY RIGHTS, INCLUDING GAY MARRIAGE, SAME-SEX INTIMACY AND CONTRACEPTION. Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Pittsburgh at a rally for abortion rights, following the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on Friday.The event was held outside the City-County Building on Grant Street.Speakers included Mayor Ed Gainey and state Rep. Summer Lee, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District.People who support the Supreme Court decision were also in the crowd and spoke with Pittsburgh's Action News 4.Watch the report from downtown: Click the video player above.
