Dear Friends,

The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) this week released a 1,400-page study of the impact a proposed offshore wind energy project near us could have on the environment and the region. A 45-day public comment period opens today and extends through Monday, August 8, 2022.

BOEM will review this “Draft Environmental Impact Statement” and consider public feedback as they work to make a final decision on the fate of the project by April 2023. Whether you’re for it, against it, or not sure, it’s worth looking at this report to learn more. More information on how to view the document and to comment is available here.

The Judiciary of New Jersey has created a new website that provides a variety of resources related to justice for the elderly. The site addresses topics including reporting abuse, guardianship of incapacitated adults, housing issues, consumer fraud, getting legal help and other resources. Visit the Elder Justice site at: www.njcourts.gov/public/elder-justice.html.

The weekend forecast looks good, and there are already a lot of people in town. I want to remind everybody that our new jitney service is operating 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily with service to the Boardwalk area and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with service to the downtown. To learn more, visit www.ocnj.us/JitneyService.

Please respect the power of the ocean and swim only at beaches protected by the Ocean City Beach Patrol. For a list of all guarded beaches, visit ocnj.us/ocbp.

The Ocean City Pops opens its 2022 summer season on Sunday evening, and the concert will feature a swing band called Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. The Pops has a great lineup of shows with a wide variety of musical themes and special guests. If you’ve never been to a Pops show, you should check out this great local orchestra this Sunday or this summer. The schedule and the online box office are available here: www.ocnj.us/OceanCityPops.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Warm regards,

Mayor Jay A. Gillian
