Northeast celebrates student success with Achievement Awards celebration

NORFOLK, Neb. – Northeast Community College celebrated the success of its students outside the classroom with an end-of-year celebration. The Student Awards Celebration recognized students for academic and athletic achievements during the 2021-22 year.

Dr. Leah Barrett, president, welcomed the students to the event. She congratulated them for jobs well done on for making the most of their college experience.

“Engaging with the Professional Business Leaders, SkillsUSA, the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture Judging Program, Phi Theta Kappa, intercollegiate athletics, the band, the theater, serving as a resident assistant, working as an ambassador and the countless other experiences you have had will contribute to your future success.”

Barrett said in addition to making the decision to seek a college degree, the students made the decision to invest their time and talent in co-curricular activities - activities that are championed by Northeast employees.

“These activities are supported by the faculty and staff who gain motivation by watching you grow and prepare to be successful in your career,” she said. “It is their calling; you are the reason they come to work every day. I encourage you to take the time to say thank you! They have played a part in your success and have prepared you for the future.”

Students honored during the Achievement Awards celebration earned recognition in the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture national conference, Nebraska SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference, Nebraska Professional Business Leaders Conference, crop judging competitions at Kansas State and West Texas A & M universities, and the Area Health Education Center Scholars Program.

Student-athletes were also presented certificates for their performances during the year and for their selections as All Region and to Academic All Region teams by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference, National Junior College Athletic Association.

The Northeast Community College Jazz Machine, under the direction of Kevin McLouth, performed at the beginning of the program. The celebration was broadcast by Northeast’s Media Arts program at https://team1sports.com/northeastcc/
