Obituary: Thomas Richard Donovan

October 13, 1937 ~ June 15, 2022

Thomas Richard Donovan, 84, of Jacksonport, died after a long health battle on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.

He was born October 13, 1937 in Lyndon Station, son of the late Thomas Joseph and Marie Elizabeth (Riddlestine) Donovan. Tom graduated from Madonna High School. He was a member of the United States Army National Guard. He owned Donovan Mirror and Glass Company, along with TRD, LLC.   In 1985, Tom and Linda Susan Funk were united in marriage in Maui, Hawaii, and later at St. Michael’s in Jacksonport, WI The two are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Tom is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Dennis (Patti Rea) Donovan of Sandy, Utah; stepchildren, Dina (Bradley) Pietz of Menomonee Falls and Scott (Tina) Funk of Milwaukee; six grandchildren: Mary, Ellen, Charles, Lily, Ryan, Parker; five sisters, Sharon (Don) Orth of Oconomowoc, Patti Schroeckenthaler of Pewaukee, Ruth Mielke of New Berlin, Rita (Dan) Madden of Schofield, and Judy (Jim) Hall of Mauston; brother, Joseph (Ruby) Donovan of Mauston; sister-in-law, Mary Donovan; brother-in-law, Al Kobylski; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Donovan; daughter, Desiree Donovan; two brothers, John and Tim Donovan; and sister, Kathy Kobylski.

He was an avid bow hunter and fisherman. He had a strong passion for the beauty of the land and nature. This was especially shown by donating a parcel of land to the Door County Land Trust. He loved walking the land, and by keeping open spaces of land. He will be sorely missed by family & friends, but especially by his loving wife.

A celebration of life mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish, 110 N. 5th Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI on August 26 at 1:30. Visitation will be held from 12-1:30.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Door County Land Trust.
