We’re kind of over all this wind in Bodega Bay

Ok, let me just say it. “Done with the Wind!” Please be gone soon. Yes, we are “Blowdega” Bay, but enough is enough. Us BB long-time locals know we had a 10-year slight wind lull; now we get squalls at odd times of the year. My home has even developed a wind “squeak” on the north side! Sounds spooky, plus add in these eerie moons, and you have yourself a scary movie. Oh wait, we already have one. But when it is this windy, the birds don’t even fly. Nor can our fisherman even fish in this howling wind. How do you feel about the wind?

Up for sale – the Hagemann ranch

The beloved family home of Matt & Stephanie Hagemann is on the market for $16 million. I would pay anything just to keep them on their multi-generational home and land, but we all understand the challenges ranches in California face. The biggest one is extinction due to restrictive laws, folks telling landowners what they can do with their land and California being so darn expensive for just about everything. We will miss this wonderful family. Check out the listing at https://www.californiaoutdoorproperties.com/listing/hagemann-ranch

Cutting the ribbon – Sonoma County fire to the rescue

It’s official: we are no longer the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District. It is bittersweet. Yes, I know all the benefits of this change, but we were a family with our paramedics and firefighters as part of our close community. We love them! We know they have wonderful opportunities throughout Sonoma County for growth and opportunity. They also now have competitive salaries, not the lowest in Sonoma County any longer. I tried to take a video during Chief Sean Grinnell’s speech at the ribbon-cutting but could not see through my tears. They are sad and happy tears. Every year we had to beg for money just to be short-staffed in the end and out of money. May safety and stability be our future now.

Fisherman’s festival was an amazing success

Record attendance and revenue allowed the Board to bestow much-needed financial grants to numerous local nonprofits. Thanks again to all the coastal volunteers who made this event a success. Mark your calendars for April 22 & 23, 202,3, so you don’t miss this event!

Did you miss my may edition “Shero” gazette column?

Well, if you did, you were one of the few. Amanda Pusatero, the shero who helped save three fishermen, was featured on Google & Yahoo Newsfeeds and was the most read article for the Gazette. Amanda’s heroism went viral! You can read it online at Sonoma County Gazette, May edition. It’s almost to the back of the paper, but it is worth a read! Something positive to uplift your spirits. https://www.sonomacountygazette.com/sonoma-county-news/did-you-know-there-is-a-shero-among-us-in-bodega-bay/

Dreams do come true – well, almost, but we need your money!

The Bodega Bay Grange is about to begin building the new commercial kitchen, and we need thousands of dollars to make it happen. Thanks to all who donated, but the cost has almost doubled due to building code requirements. We need more to make this happen. Why does the Grange need a commercial kitchen? During the 2017 firestorm, when 3,000 evacuees came to Bodega Bay, the county health department shut us down with no way to feed all these hungry people because we did not have a commercial kitchen license. We can’t let that happen again! The new kitchen can also be a kick-starter for local entrepreneurs wanting to start a food business. And our famous cioppino feast can happen in style! You can donate by sending a check to BB Grange, P. O. Box 152, Bodega Bay CA 94923 or via PayPal at bbgrange777@att.net. Learn more at www.bodegabaygrange.org
