PEORIA (25 News Now) - Hangers were used to represent an older, dangerous and unsafe way abortions were conducted.

In between the speeches, everyone was told to be silent to represent how, they believe, a woman’s voice is being taken away.

Friday’s protest was an open dialogue with many people volunteering to speak on their beliefs

Jill Blair who organized today’s protest says this ruling is just the beginning, “our right to bodily autonomy was taken away. Our voices were ignored and we need to take a moment and mourn what we lost. There will be plenty of time for speaking out and for fighting to get it back.”

“I am a Cis woman and I am Black and First-Generation Latina so this will affect me in the future and any friends that I have or if I choose to have children which I don’t which is why I am here. It will affect them.” Said Cardella Joyce who read her story out loud about how women have been systematically oppressed during the time when Roe v. Wade was first decided on decades ago.

“It’s going start by taking away rights for women and then they are going to take away rights from Gay couples. Then they are going to take away rights - they already are taking away rights from People of Color by stripping the voting rights act. This isn’t going to stop here. So if you care about your own rights, then you fight for the rights of others.” Explains Blair

The speakers who talked spoke on a range of women reproductive topics ranging from birthing stories, experience with sexual trauma and mothers’ fears for their daughters’ future.
