(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v Wade overshadowed the Chicago area visit of Vice President Kamala Harris, who condemned the ruling.

Harris had been scheduled to talk about new initiatives in maternal health care in southwest suburban Plainfield. Her appearance was delayed — the script, changed.

The vice president said the high court’s ruling wipes away protections and could be a harbinger of things to come. Roe v Wade established a constitutional right to an abortion.

“Today’s decision on that theory, then, calls into question other rights that we thought were settled, such as the right to use birth control, the right to same-sex marriage, the right to interracial marriage,” Harris said.

She echoed President Biden’s earlier comments, saying people can elect others who will protect rights.

The vice president’s stop drew some supporters of former President Donald Trump.

Molly Krempski of Yorkville was among a small group of people demonstrating outside the YMCA where Harris spoke. She said they were not protesting the vice president, rather, they were there to "declare God's truth that Trump won the 2020 election and that abortion is murder."

"I guess we found out this morning that the Supreme Court agrees with us, so we're pretty excited about that," Krempski said. "We think it's something that should go back to the states and then we hope the states will decide on the side of justice and righteousness."
