Two local women from the same generation hold very different perspectives on the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.

News 12’s Frank Recchia was at Newton-Foster Homecare Agency in Bridgeport Friday, a business made up almost entirely of women from the greater Bridgeport area to discuss their raw reaction to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.

"Outraged, disgusted," said owner Patty Newton Foster. She says while she herself has never had an abortion, she is passionately pro-choice.

Newton says the vast majority of people she works with feel the same way. When she found out the Supreme Court had overturned Roe v. Wade, Newton says she was horrified. 

"I don't think that it's right for anybody to take our rights away, to say where and when we can have a child," she said.

Newton says she considers herself a child of the American civil rights movement and has always thought of the constitutional right to have an abortion as one of the precious civil liberties won during her lifetime. 

"If you have money, you can get away, you can do anything you want. But at the end of the day, if you're poor, you're taking away our rights, you're taking away our constitutional rights to be able to say when and where and what we can do with our bodies and our lives," she said.

"We will always legally stand and fight for life -- from the unborn until natural death," said Suzy Smith of the Pro Life Council of Connecticut.

Pro Life Council of Connecticut is a local affiliate of National Right to Life, America's largest pro-life organization. Smith sits on the opposite side of the issue and calls Friday’s ruling both "an answer to prayer" and "a reason to celebrate."
