Firefighters battle Contra Costa County's second vegetation fire in 24 hours

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Firefighters have put out the Kirker Fire, which is the second fire to burn in Contra Costa County within 24 hours.

The Kirker Fire is now 100% contained and burned 90 acres, CAL FIRE said.

The two-alarm fire broke out near Kirker Pass Road and Hess Road in Clayton, CAL FIRE SCU said in a tweet. CAL FIRE SCU was notified at 12:22 p.m. that the fire was burning and dispatched crews to extinguish the flames.

The Kirker Fire has burned 60 acres, officials told KCBS Radio.

The fire is located three miles northeast of Clayton at Kirker Pass Road and the Black Diamond trail, CAL FIRE reported.

Forward progress has been stopped but firefighters will remain on the scene to make sure the fire is out.

This is the second fire in 24 hours in Contra Costa County. On Thursday, a fire in Port Costa burned 50 acres near Carquinez Scenic Drive.
