(WLOS) After a short but frenetic recruiting process, Christ School 4-star athlete Zack Myers made his college decision Friday. He pulled out an NC State hat as family and teammates cheered, picking the Wolfpack over his other finalists Tennessee, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech.
"I felt like I was playing with a family. [Former Christ School teammate] Aydan White is there, so that was a really big factor," explained Myers. "I've built a really great relationship with Coach [Joe} DeForest, the safeties coach. From day one of recruiting he kept it real with me, and that was really cool to see because in college football they'll tell you what you want to hear. But I didn't feel like I got that from him."
Myers reclassified into the 2023 class, moving up a year. As a sophomore in 2021 he caught 22 passes for 499 yards and 5 touchdowns in the Greenies' 8 games.
Also an elite track sprinter, the State coaching staff envisions him on the defensive side of the ball at the next level.
"They told me I could really be a high-level wide receiver at NC State; but they also said I could be a high-level draft pick if I'm on the defensive side of the ball," said Myers. "So, just hearing little things like that really makes you change your thinking around. I always told them going into it, like - at the end of the day like it's their decision, right? Just because it's your team."
Myers made the announcement to open the door to being a mid-year enrollee at NC State after he finishes his final campaign in Arden.
