LAGUNA HILLS (CNS) - A four-hour standoff with a Laguna Hills man ended peacefully when he surrendered to authorities Friday.

The man, who is in his mid-50s, apparently set off sprinklers with a fire in a senior-living residence at 24552 Paseo de Valencia, said Orange County sheriff's Sgt. Todd Hylton.

Deputies believe the fire may have been intentionally set, setting off the sprinklers about 7 a.m., Hylton said. Orange County Fire Authority firefighters responded to the blaze, and the standoff ensued when the man refused to come out, he said.

The sprinklers caused extensive damage that spread to neighboring units, he said.
