WAPATO - Police confirm a woman has died of serious injuries in Wapato, and that police are currently investigating the scene as a homicide.
According to Wapato Police Chief Nolan Wentz, 911 got the call about 12:30 p.m. Friday of a woman injured in a car outside Wayne's Tire in Wapato.
Police responded and found the woman in the backseat of a car. Officials say the officers pulled her out and started trying to give her medical attention and stop her significant loss of blood.
After some time she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the woman had not been injured at the scene of the tire shop but that the whatever caused her injuries had happened elsewhere and she had been driven to the tire store on Donald Road in Wapato where someone called 911.
Investigators say the person who drove the woman is a family member.
Police have not confirmed what specific injuries the woman had, or how she was hurt.
As the victim is a tribal member, the FBI and tribal police have taken over the investigation.
