Community Leader and Businesswomen, Monica Brooks Runs for Wicomico County Council

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md – 47 ABC spoke with Monica Brooks as she runs for Wicomico county council.

She says this is her first time running for an elected position but has involvement in the community as she is the co-founder of Concerned Citizens against industrial CAFOs, a grassroots organization for environmental justice.

We asked Brooks what she plans to bring to the position and how she wants to improve the county.
She said “Somehow our district has not been prioritized in the ways of economic development, in the ways of preventing toxins and pollutants from being placed in our community.”

She went on to also say “We’re in a crisis… we’re in a crisis, especially since Covid, Kids who are behind are extremely behind in reading and comprehension and opportunities for employment so what is that going to look like for our community.”

She finished by telling us, that she refers to herself as a fighter on behalf of her community, and that her vast business and legislative experience makes her well equipped to tackle these issues.
