PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Northwest Floridians are sharing their voices following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade Friday.
People who are opposed to abortion are celebrating, while those who are pro-choice are saddened by the decision.
"It's shocking and outrageous at the same time," Rachel Harrell, pro-choice activist said.
Harrell, along with other pro-choice activists, are saddened by Friday's decision.
"I really thought all of our collective voices would be heard and that the Supreme Court would not betray us this way," Harrell said.
Harrell participated in the Woman's March in Niceville last October. She says her friend went to a clinic for a legal abortion, an action she says may not be legal in Florida for long.
Friday, Channel 3 went to Pensacola's only abortion clinic. They declined to comment, saying they're still processing the high court's decision.
The latest data from the CDC shows over 930,000 abortions were done across the U.S. in 2020. That's nearly 20,000 more than the year before.
"As an emergency physician, I understand each situation is unique," Dr. Carolyn Zonia, pro-choice activist said. "We may not understand all the factors for someone to make a decision to seek an abortion. But that decision should remain between a woman and her physician. If we try and criminalize a healthcare decision, and you try and invoke penalties on woman and physicians, I think this is a very dangerous precedent."
The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and other released statement Friday applauding the Supreme Court's decision.
DeSantis said in part Friday, "the prayers of millions have been answered."
The Party for Socialism and Liberation will hold a rally Friday evening in Pensacola as an emergency response in defense of abortion rights.
It's set for 6 p.m. at the Federal Courthouse on Palafox Street in Pensacola.
