COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued a reprieve of execution for Quisi Bryan, who was scheduled to be executed on October 26, 2022.

The new date of execution has been moved to January 7, 2026.

Gov. DeWine is issuing the reprieve “due to ongoing problems involving the willingness of pharmaceutical suppliers to provide drugs to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), pursuant to DRC protocol, without endangering other Ohioans.”

Bryan was convicted of shooting officer Wayne Leon in 2000 at a Cleveland gas station after the officer stopped Bryan for a traffic violation. He is one of more than two dozen Ohio death row inmates with execution dates over the next few years.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the Bryan’s case in 2017.
