The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office has identified the victim as Maleek Thomas, 18, of Pittsburgh.
Sky 4 flew above the scene in the Bedford Dwellings neighborhood. Police officers were seen placing evidence markers in several locations.
Police said they responded to a ShotSpotter alert for nine shots fired on Chauncey Drive at about 2:45 p.m.
A male victim who had been shot in the side was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
Police said three vehicles were struck by gunfire.
Two guns have been recovered as the investigation continues, police said.
