Amarillo police respond to multiple wrecks in the city

The Amarillo Police Department responded to three major crashes in Amarillo within around a 24-hour time period.

Around 11:50 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of SE 11th Avenue and S. Pierce Street, an SUV collided with an Amarillo ISD pickup truck, causing the pickup to rollover.

One person was injured in the crash. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital for their injures.

The Amarillo Police Department responded to three major crashes in Amarillo within around a 24-hour time period.

Pierce Street between 10th and 11th was closed while the wreck was cleared.

In another crash, a man was severely injured when his car went airborne, hitting a fence and rolling over.

Early Friday morning around 2:40 a.m., the driver of the vehicle was heading east on NE 24th Street when he hit a dip at a high rate a speed, causing the vehicle to go airborne and roll through a fence, APD said.

The metal fence at New Light Ministries was hit, and the car came to a stop on its roof.

APD's crime scene investigator was called to the scene of the crash.

A third crash occurred at SW 15th and Georgia on Friday morning.

A driver was not paying attention and ran a red light, causing the accident, according to police.

The roads at this crash were cleared and reopened, APD said.
