The Georgia Department of Corrections staff have been conducting unannounced shakedowns at its facilities.
In a post to the Georgia Department of Corrections Twitter page, the agency announced that two local prisons confiscated a combined 700 weapons, 200 cell phones, and drugs, tobacco, and homemade alcohol. The Department of Corrections says they regularly conduct shakedowns with Tact Squads throughout the state.
According to the agency the shakedowns were done in commitment to keeping criminal activity from the facilities.
Ware State Prison and Calhoun State Prison conducted a 2-day full-facility shakedown. Calhoun confiscated the following items:
- 417 weapons
- 106 cell phones
- drugs
- tobacco
- homemade alcohol
Ware confiscated the following items:
- 283 weapons
- 94 cell phones
- drug
- tobacco
- homemade alcohol
