Judge rules no bond to be given to accused cop killer

The wounded suspect investigators say staged a deliberate ambush attack on Spartanburg County Sheriff's Deputy Austin Aldridge will be jailed without bond when he's released from the hospital.

63 year old, Duane Leslie Heard is recovering from bullet wounds, hit twice as he traded shots with deputies Tuesday. He then before surrendered to a SWAT team, after wrecking his vehicle running from the murder scene at his home.

In an appearance on camera from his hospital room a magistrate judge ordered Heard held without bond pending his trial for murder and firearms charges filed by the State Law Enforcement Division. He did not enter a plea to the charges in the virtual hearing. He'll eventually be arraigned in state court, but In the words of a Spartanburg Regional Hospital source, "He's going to be here for some time."

on Friday, Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright held a press conference to give more information on the incident. Wright said during the presser that after he shot Deputy Aldridge at the home, Heard took Aldridge's gun, taser and keys.

Heard is also facing county charges including resisting arrest stemming from an incident last October. He's accused of blocking a mail carrier who'd driven past his home the Postal Service had placed on a do-not-deliver list because of earlier confrontations.
