Virginia Louise (Baker) Smith, 97, of  Tompkinsville, KY passed away Saturday, June 18th, at Hospice House of Bowling Green.

 

Born August 1, 1924, in San Antonio, TX, she was the daughter of John Leslie  Baker, Sr, and Anna Louise (Grenzen) Baker, and the wife of William “Bill” Marvin Smith, all who preceded her in death.

 

Bill and Virginia were married on April 24, 1946, and were married 51 years.

 

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Baker and Alma (Baker) Earl and one brother John Leslie Baker, Jr. and two children, Kay Lorraine Smith and Robert Leroy Smith.

 

Virginia is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon (Smith) and Gene Goode, of Tompkinsville KY and one daughter-in-law, Becky Smith of Little Rock, AR; four grandchildren, Jason Goode, of Bowling Green, KY; Jennifer (Goode) Schaefer (Danny), of Lenoir City, TN; Amber Deaver (Tom) of Little Rock, AR, and Kylan Smith (Sondra), of Arkansas; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and two nephews, Bob Earl and Ed Earl, both of Texas.

 

She was a member of Mt. Gilead Church of Christ.

 

Virginia grew up during the depression in rural Texas. In 1946, she married Bill and they began their family; after the birth of their two daughters they moved to Benton, Arkansas, where they raised their children and lived in the same house for 49 years. After the death of Bill, she moved to Tompkinsville where Sharon and Gene lived and started another phase of life. She even went to summer church camp for the first time at Big Reedy and helped in the kitchen when she was almost  ninety.

 

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.

 

Visitation with the family will begin after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kay Smith Scholarship Fund.
