Police: Man acting erratically gets into physical fight with officers

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - UPDATE: Prater Way is back open near Rock Blvd. in Sparks after police activity shut it down Friday morning.

Officers with the Sparks Police Department were called to the area of Prater Way and 16th Street around 10 a.m. on reports of a man acting erratically, reportedly throwing rocks at cars and shouting. Officers approached the man and tried to de-escalate the situation using non-lethal force, police said.

The man got away from officers and went to a black pickup truck parked in the lot by the Alano Club where he pulled out two metal objects, police said. Officers attempted to de-escalate again until a physical fight broke out between the man and officers.

The man was injured, although police did not say how. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.

Several police officers were also injured and were treated at the scene.

ORIGINAL STORY: Westbound Prater Way is shut down at Rock Boulevard due to police activity, the Sparks Police Department reported.

The closure took effect around 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2022.

The nature of the police activity is unknown, but our crew on scene says police tape is up around the parking lot of the Alano Club.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
