Former The Voice Mega Mentor Taylor Swift has a new song out called “Carolina,” off the soundtrack for the upcoming movie Where the Crawdads Sing. Swift first previewed the song earlier this year in the film’s trailer, and now fans have the full version to enjoy.

Taylor Swift Releases New Song ‘Carolina’

Where the Crawdads Sing, out in theaters July 15, is based on the best-selling 2018 novel of the same name by Delia Owens. The movie stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kya, a young woman living in the marshes of North Carolina.

When the film’s trailer was released in March, Swift wrote on Instagram that it was “a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago.” She wrote the song “Carolina” by herself, with Aaron Dessner producing.

Swift said she “wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story.” She definitely accomplished that in her slow, quiet new song that describes the main character’s invisibility and secrecy.

“And you didn’t see me here / No, they never did see me here,” she sings, later adding, “And there are places I will never, ever go / And things that only Carolina will ever know.”

Swift Was a The Voice Mega Mentor in Season 17

In 2019, Swift served as a Mega Mentor on Season 17 of The Voice, helping all four coaches prepare their artists for the Knockouts round. This was actually Swift’s second time advising on the show, having first appeared in Season 7.

Swift’s friend Ed Sheeran took on the role of Mega Mentor in Season 21 last year. This past February, Sheeran released a remix of his song “The Joker and the Queen” featuring Swift, along with a music video starring young actors who look like them.

Since her time on The Voice, Swift has accomplished quite a bit. She released two new albums, Folklore and Evermore, as well as a rerecorded version of her album Red. Last year, she became the first female artist to win three Grammys for Album of the Year.
