Hoisington Chamber of Commerce Director Karen Baldyga knows that everyone is hearing the phrase “shop local” in an effort to support local businesses. As gas prices rise and inflation on nearly everything else continues, “shop local” takes on a new meaning...one for the consumer.

"In 2020, we were trying to save our businesses," said Baldyga. "Now, as consumers, we're trying to save our own pocketbooks. We really need to look at ways to save money. One way to do that is by not leaving town."

Baldyga said the chamber will continue to promote its local businesses.

"A lot of people shop local here, despite the economy," said Baldyga. "It takes a lot of gas to go back and forth to Great Bend. We love Great Bend, but if you can't afford it...look to stay here."

Hoisington is located 10 miles north of Great Bend.

The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce has more than 120 chamber members.
