Police identify woman who drowned after being hit by a large wave during a late-night swim

KILL DEVIL HILLS, Dare County —
The woman who drowned after being hit by a large wave during a late-night swim has been identified.

Captain J.C. Towler, Jr. with the Kill Devil Hills Police Department said Megan Elaine Perry, 37, of Kill Devil Hills was swimming with a man in Southern Shores after midnight on Thursday when a large wave hit them.
The man surfaced but could not find Perry, so he went a nearby home and called 911.
Perry's body washed up on the beach just North of Pelican Watch Way in Southern Shores just before 6 a.m. on Thursday.
