MICHIGAN CENTER, MI – Bored on a Thursday evening? Leoni Township has a summer-long event that is perfect for the family.

The Leoni Township Parks and Recreation Committee is hosting Summer Nights in the Park from 6 to 9 p.m. every other Thursday throughout the summer at the Leoni Township Park on Fifth Street in Michigan Center.

The event, featuring food, live music and more, was created by the committee to bring more people out of their homes to enjoy a fun night in the park, Chairperson Debbie Chambers said.

“It was kind of my dream,” Chambers said. “We have a wonderful park that was not being utilized the way it should have been utilized. So, we kind of started it up for the community.”

Summer Nights in the Park started last year, and the township committee is excited to bring it back again this year, Chambers said.

People also can expect to see roughly 25 vendors, including ones that sell honey, jewelry, shirts, blankets and more. Vendors interested in participating in the events can contact Chambers at 517-937-8663.

Additionally, the event features a different food truck each week. Last week, the committee was able to host Melted, she said.

Summer Nights in the Park has been popular so far, Chambers said, adding everyone is invited to attend the free public event.

“If you’re bored on a Thursday, then come out and see the bands for free,” Chambers said.

The music schedule for Summer Nights in the Park is:

June 30 – All Direction

July 14 – Flyte

July 28 – The Chillbillies

Aug. 11 – Alibi

Aug. 25 – Don Middlebrook
