Rain chances going up and temps going down

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Another hot day with highs in the upper 90s and low 100s is on tap to wrap up the work week. Once again, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, wearing loose-fitting clothing, and taking frequent breaks if you’re planning on being outdoors for any period of time! The good news is, unlike the last couple days, we’ll likely see some relief from the heat at some point thanks to the development of a few showers and storms later in the afternoon. Rain chances today will be around 30%.

Rain chances will go up to 60% on Saturday thanks to an area of low pressure and ample moisture moving back in via a shift in our winds to the east/southeast. Showers and storms will start developing just before noon and will continue on into the afternoon hours. Some storms could be on the strong side, with gusty downburst winds possible. Temperatures will be much cooler than previous days, as we’ll only rise into the low 90s from the mid 70s before rain and storms blossom.

Sunday will feature a slightly lower chance for showers and storms at around 40%. We’ll begin the morning in the low 70s and again make it up to the low 90s.

Rain chances will drop off a bit more to 30% on Monday as we start to warm back up a little bit. After waking up to temperatures in the low 70s, expect to climb into the mid 90s by the afternoon.

Scattered showers and storms will stay in the forecast for the rest of the work week, with Tuesday through Thursday all having 40-50% chances for rain. High temperatures will stay near or just above average in the low to mid 90s. Lows will remain in the 70s.
