(670 The Score) Bears linebacker Matt Adams was arrested Thursday on misdemeanor charges for unlawful use of a weapon, TMZ reported.
Adams was near a Jeep that was reported stolen, and a search by police found a loaded handgun in the center console, according to the report, which added he had a permit for the gun, though not from the state of Illinois. He was also found with a high capacity magazine and metal-piercing bullets, TMZ reported. No charges were filed around the suspicion of the vehicle being stolen, which was considered a misunderstanding.
Adams, 26, was still in police custody as of Friday morning and will be due in court in August.
The Bears signed Adams to a one-year deal in April, bringing him in after he played four years with the Colts under then-defensive coordinator Matt Eberlfus, who's now Chicago’s head coach.
Adams is the second Bears player to be arrested this offseason. Receiver Byron Pringle was arrested in April for reckless driving charges and driving on a suspended license after police found him doing donuts in his vehicle with a child in the backseat.
The Bears are currently on a break before opening training camp in late July at Halas Hall.
