Decatur police say an officer saw Patrick Hutton, 26, in a car holding a gun near Jasper and Eldorado streets.
A short time later the officer heard a gunshot and saw the driver stick his hand with the gun out of the window.
The officer attempted to stop Hutton's car and followed him, eventually reaching the area of Fairview Plaza.
The officer then fired his gun in Hutton's direction while Hutton continued to flee.
Neither the officer nor Hutton was injured.
Hutton was stopped near Fairview Park Drive and Eldorado Street and taken into custody.
