Man struck by SUV while crossing State 22 in Callaway taken to hospital in critical condition

CALLAWAY — A Georgia woman driving east on State 22 struck a Nebraska man crossing the road on foot Thursday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 34-year-old Bellevue, Nebraska, man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, FHP officials reported.

The woman, 21, of Fort Benning, was just east of County 2315 when the crash occurred about 9:45 p.m. Thursday. According to the FHP, she did not see the man walking south across the road, striking him in the eastbound lane. He was thrown into a ditch on the south shoulder of the road. 

The man's condition was not available Friday morning.
