A huge mulch fire is still smoldering in a composting site in northwest Dallas.
Late Thursday night, Dallas Fire-Rescue got the 911 call and responded to Soil Building Systems, a manufacturer and wholesaler of bagged soil and compost products near I-35E and Walnut Hill.
Mulch and compost fires are notoriously hard to put out and fire crews spent much of the night on the scene.
Working in upper 90s heat, Dallas firefighters had to literally climb in, around and on top of the two-story high mulch pile to get their hoses directed at the source of the flames.
