Motorcyclist hit by semi, killed near Kalamazoo

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist was killed when his bike was hit by a semi-truck near Kalamazoo, police say.

The motorcyclist was identified as Jerry Wahmhoff, 46, of Three Rivers.

It happened around 6:55 a.m. Friday on N. Sprinkle Road at the I-94 Business Loop in Comstock Township.

Michigan State Police say Wahmhoff driving south on Sprinkle and entered the Business Loop intersection on a green light. He was struck by a westbound semi-truck. He died at the scene.

The driver of the semi, a 35-year-old Sparta man, was not injured.

The crash closed the intersection for about five hours.

MSP says it is still investigating, but drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been involved and Wahmhoff was wearing a helmet.
